Welcome to Sydenham Croquet Club

We are a small, sociable club, and play Golf Croquet, from April to  September,  inclusive. Beginners can quickly learn and play this form of croquet.

Golf croquet is played by women and men of all ages. It involves skill and tactics and is great fun to play. On average, a game of golf croquet takes only around 40 minutes, which leaves you with ample time to socialise.

We play on the former bowling green in  Mayow Park, Sydenham, SE26 4JA, (See Contact and Find Us) usually on Wed, Sat and Sunday afternoons from 2pm.

Our friendly members will be happy to introduce you to this fascinating game. Please contact us to try one of our free taster sessions.

No experience needed, just come in flat shoes as we supply the necessary equipment (including mallets). We look forward to seeing you on the lawn!

We also arrange friendly matches with local clubs, and play in a local league. Check Gallery & Events for photos and results.

Fixtures (See Gallery and Events for details and photos):

We are very pleased to say that the team that played Purley Bury at the away league match on Tues 16th August won by 6 games to 3.

On Thursday, 25th August, we welcomed our first visiting team, Bromley, for a friendly match, and won 4 of the 6 doubles games.

Our winning ways continued: on Tuesday, 30th August, we played in a league fixture at Merton, and won 5 -4!

And on 6th September, we won again, this time at Dulwich, with a score of 5-4. This means we won 3 out of 4 league matches, which is brilliant!

Over the weekend of Sat 17th and Sunday 18th September, we held the Finals of our internal competition. Spectators were treated to three close doubles games on Saturday, and two fascinating singles games on Sunday, followed by afternoon tea both days. The Chair thanked members for assisting the Club with particular matters, and our President presented the trophies.  Details on the Gallery and Events page.

As a full member of  The Croquet Association we have insurance for our club and through membership of the South-East Croquet Federation we play matches in a league. Both organisations provide helpful advice with various croquet matters.

Club sessions

Between April and September, we usually play from 2 pm on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Lawn availability will vary due to weather and other commitments on the lawn. Members exchange information on sessions of play on the club’s WhatsApp group and by email.
